Jiang Qing's first letter to Comrade Mao

[Comrade Jiang Qing (19 March 1914 – 14 May 1991), also known as “Madame Mao”, was a Chinese communist revolutionary, actress, and major political figure during the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966–1976). She served as the inaugural "First Lady" of the People's Republic of China. Jiang was best known for playing a major role in the Cultural Revolution and for forming the radical political alliance known as the "Gang of Four".]

Dear leader Chairman Mao,

I listened attentively to your report of great historical significance today. You pointed out the bright direction and inspired me. I am a carpenter's daughter. I was tortured by life since childhood, suffering from insufficient food and being abused by my drunken father; Mother couldn't stand the pressure and left us; I was forced to study drama and make a living on stage; I later joined the left wing literary and Art Federation in Shanghai. I joined the Communist Party in 1933 and became a film and stage star successively. This is the cultivation given to me by the party. It is your brilliant thought that nurtured me that makes me today. I yearn for life in Yan'an and pursue truth. Now I am a student of class 12 of the Party school. Because my theoretical level is very low, I have little experience in revolutionary struggle, and many political and ideological problems lack the guidance of advanced people. I ask, Dear Chairman Mao, please take the time to meet me once. This is the only hope of my life as a bitter child! I have many problems in my mind. If I can get your face-to-face instruction, I will benefit a lot! After listening to your report today, I still don't quite understand a certain point in the analysis of the current situation.

Dear Chairman Mao, I think you will welcome me. You are a great person who is good at contacting the masses. As a naive girl, I just put forward a small request to you. Ah, I feel very excited to write so far! I will hear your teaching with my own ears. Indeed, I have seen you three times. This happy fourth time is coming.
